Share your screen. Not your secrets.
Never flash private Slack DMs, client emails, or API keys on a call again.
StealthShare is a native macOS menu-bar app that guards your screen as soon as you go live so your private secrets never leak. It covers confidential windows with a blur mask, hides desktop clutter, silences notification banners, and swaps in a clean studio backdrop. One global hotkey, or fully automatic the moment your call connects — and it can arm itself before a meeting even starts.

Everything that could leak, handled
One switch. Your whole screen, made safe.
Screen sharing exposes far more than the tab you meant to show — private chats, desktop clutter, a message banner at the worst moment. StealthShare closes every one of those gaps at once.
Confidential window masking
Slack, Messages, Mail, WhatsApp, your password managers and any app you add are covered by a blur mask while you share. They stay covered even if you click them, so switching to your vault mid-call never reveals it — press ⌘⇧E for eight seconds when you do want to see one.
Desktop & widget hiding
Tucks away every desktop icon and Mac widget behind a clean surface, so a messy desktop or a revealing filename never shows up mid-call.
Studio backdrop
Swaps in a neutral, professional wallpaper the moment you go live — and puts your own back the instant you're done.
Notification blocker
Holds banners while you share so no message preview pops up on screen. After the call it tells you how long they were held and which comms apps to check.
Meeting auto-detect
Arms itself the moment your mic, camera or screen share actually goes live — in Zoom, Teams, Meet, a Slack huddle, FaceTime, or any app that isn't on the list at all. Recording a screencast on purpose? Pause auto-arm for as long as you choose.
Present Mode
On by default: every background window is blurred and only the one you're working in stays readable — so apps you never thought to add are covered too. Click any window to make it the visible one, or press ⌘⇧E to reveal one for 8 seconds.
Meeting watcher
Reads your calendar (locally, read-only), counts down to your next Zoom / Teams / Meet call in the menu bar, and arms Privacy Mode 1 to 30 minutes ahead — 15 by default. Not ready yet? Not now clears it, and it arms again when the meeting actually starts.
One global hotkey
Press ⌘⇧P anywhere to arm or disarm instantly. No hunting for a menu when someone says "can you share your screen?"
Puts everything back
Every change is temporary. End the call — or quit the app — and your icons, widgets, wallpaper and Focus return exactly as they were.
Private by design
StealthShare never records or captures your screen. It has no account and no analytics, and everything it does happens on your Mac.
Accidental-Paste Guard
Ever pasted an API key, password, or token into a shared window by mistake? StealthShare catches credentials instantly with a warning flash hidden from the audience. Press ⌘V again within 4s to override.
Do Not Disturb sync
Uses two simple, local Shortcuts to turn Focus on and off with your calls — silencing banners without overriding your personal schedule.
After-call summary
Once you stop sharing, StealthShare tells you how long notifications were held and which chat apps were active, so you know exactly what caught up with you.
Session history
Every time Privacy Mode came on, what turned it on — your hand, your calendar, or a live call — and how long it lasted. The last 100 sessions, kept on your Mac. It records the trigger, never what was on your screen.
The windows you'd rather nobody saw, covered.
You shouldn't have to quit Slack and Messages before every screen share. StealthShare covers the windows you pick with a blur mask that sits on top of that window and follows it around — and keeps covering it even when you click it.
- ✓Ships covering Slack, Messages, Mail, WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, 1Password, Bitwarden, KeePassXC and Apple Passwords — add any other app in a click, switch off or delete any of them, including the built-in ones.
- ✓Masked windows are covered for everyone, including you — macOS has no way to show a window to you but not to the capture, so use ⌘⇧E to reveal one for eight seconds when you need it. You keep working, your audience sees a clean surface.
- ✓Each mask sits directly above the window it hides, so the app in front of it stays in front. Masks follow windows as they move, and lift the instant Privacy Mode turns off.
- ✓Change the list while you're sharing — switch an app on or off and the masks update straight away. No need to turn Privacy Mode off and on again.
- ✓Pairs with desktop-icon hiding so a private filename never flashes on screen either.
Arms itself before you hit share.
The riskiest moment is the one you didn't plan for. StealthShare watches for calls two ways, so protection is already on before your screen is ever visible.
- ✓Live detection: engages within about a second of your microphone or camera going live, and within about ten seconds of a screen share starting — in Zoom, Teams, Meet, a Slack huddle, FaceTime, or any other app. An app merely being open never counts.
- ✓Screen-share trigger: starting a screen share arms it even if you joined muted with your camera off — the case that matters most. Muted and camera-off, it takes about ten seconds to be sure it is a real share and not someone pressing ⌘⇧4; with your mic or camera live it is about a second.
- ✓Any app counts: detection doesn't care which app is capturing, so a meeting tool nobody has heard of is covered too — camera and microphone in both builds.
- ✓Ignored Apps: add the dictation tool or streaming app that holds your mic all day and it will never turn Privacy Mode on. While it holds the mic, screen-share detection pauses too — the settings card says so.
- ✓Meeting watcher: reads your schedule locally and arms 1–30 minutes before an invited Zoom / Teams / Meet / Webex event — 15 minutes by default, and the menu bar counts down to it.
- ✓Armed too early? Not now hands your screen back until the meeting actually starts — then it arms again. There is no way to skip a meeting's protection outright, on purpose.
- ✓Works with Google & Exchange calendars added to macOS — no separate sign-in.
App Store build: the sandbox blocks reading the camera device directly, so camera use is read from the macOS recording indicator instead. Meetings are detected the same either way — including a browser call joined muted. The trade-off is that macOS lights that indicator for screen recording too, so starting a screen recording can also arm Privacy Mode.
Zero scramble before meetings
What happens the second you go live.
No frantic window closing, no panic-sweeping stray files into a folder. Here is the exact sequence StealthShare executes on your Mac:
Before you share
Your calendar arms it ahead of an invited call — 15 minutes early by default, counting down in the menu bar. No invite? It arms the second your mic, camera or screen share actually goes live. Or press ⌘⇧P yourself.
The desktop empties
Desktop icons, revealing filenames and personal widgets are covered, and a neutral studio backdrop swaps in for your wallpaper.
Confidential windows go behind a mask
Each app on your list gets a blur mask over its own window — and with Present Mode on, so does every background window, including apps you never thought to add. Only the window you're working in stays readable.
Nothing interrupts
Banners are held through macOS Focus. If you paste something that looks like a password or an API key, it's caught before it lands in a shared window.
Everything comes back
Hang up or press ⌘⇧P. Wallpaper, widgets and icons return exactly as they were, with a note of what was held — and the session is logged in History so you can see what armed it and for how long.
Radical honesty & technical boundaries
What StealthShare CAN hide — and what it CANNOT.
We believe in transparent engineering, not security theater. Here is exactly what the macOS window compositor allows us to protect and where your manual attention is still required.
What StealthShare Can Hide
- ✓Desktop file clutter & screenshots: Hides every icon, folder, and revealing filename on your Mac desktop with zero lag.
- ✓Desktop widgets & notification banners: Suppresses banner popups and conceals calendar/health widgets from meeting viewers.
- ✓Designated application windows: Fully masks window contents of Slack, Mail, Messages, WhatsApp, your password managers, or any custom app you configure — and keeps them masked even when you click them.
- ✓Every background window, listed or not: Present Mode covers apps you never added — a terminal, a vault, a notes window — leaving only the window you're actually working in readable.
- ✓Personal desktop wallpaper: Swaps personal family photos or custom art for a distraction-free studio backdrop during calls.
- ✓Clipboard secret slips: Accidental-Paste Guard intercepts high-entropy API tokens, SSH keys, and passwords before pasting into shared windows.
What StealthShare Cannot Hide
- ⚠️Sensitive tabs inside an unmasked browser: If you are screen-sharing Chrome or Safari, StealthShare cannot read or hide a confidential tab inside that active window.
- ⚠️macOS system menu bar & Spotlight: System-level global UI elements (e.g. menu bar clock, active Spotlight search bar) remain rendered by the OS.
- ⚠️Physical webcam/room background: StealthShare protects your macOS screen output; it does not replace webcam background blur in Zoom/Teams.
- ⚠️A masked window, from you as well: macOS cannot draw one image to your display and another to the capture, so a covered window is covered on your own screen too. ⌘⇧E reveals the front one for eight seconds.
- ⚠️Remote audience client hacks: Protection applies strictly to your macOS display stream before compression; it does not control meeting participants' local software.

A privacy app that respects yours.
StealthShare never records, captures, or screenshots your display to disk or cloud — it simply coordinates local window compositor masks while you share. There is no account, no sign-in, and zero analytics telemetry. The app operates completely on your Mac.
Why StealthShare does not ask for "Screen Recording"
Most tools in this category ask for Screen Recording. StealthShare does not, and does not need to. To place a mask over a window it only needs that window's owner, process and on-screen rectangle, and macOS hands those to any app through the public Core Graphics window list with no permission at all — only window titles and actual pixel capture sit behind Screen Recording. StealthShare never captures, screenshots or records your screen; it draws its own panels on top of it. The only permission it ever requests is Accessibility, and only for the Accidental-Paste Guard, which cannot intercept ⌘V without it. (The optional in-app bug reporter and More Apps hub reach the network, but only when you use them.) You can verify the network behaviour with Little Snitch or Wireshark.
StealthShare is an operational safeguard designed to dramatically reduce accidental exposures of personal messages, desktop files, and credentials during screen sharing. It is not an absolute cryptographic shield against user error. Always exercise prudent judgment when sharing your screen in confidential environments.
Never over-share your screen again.
